Construction at The Hollies, the first wind farm in npower renewables' East
of England region, is now complete.
The two turbines at the wind farm will soon start generating enough green
electricity for the average annual electricity needs of around 1,300 homes
each year.
With a tip height of 90 metres, the turbines are capable of generating 1.3
megawatts each giving the site a maximum combined power of up to 2.6
megawatts.
Further still, because this electricity comes from a renewable source, the
scheme will also help offset the emission of carbon dioxide which would
otherwise have been released from the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal,
that are used to generate electricity.
The project, developed by the East of England npower renewables team and
landowner Tim Spencer, received consent in August 2005 to the delight of
both parties.
The Hollies wind farm is located near Skegness and an inauguration event is
planned for the Autumn.
The site is ideal for a wind farm as:
- It has excellent wind speed
- The site is outside all national and local designations for
landscape and ecology
- The electricity will be fed into the local electricity grid system
