Hellrigg Wind Farm Proposal
npower renewables has decided to appeal against Allerdale Borough
Council's decision to reject plans for a 4 turbine wind farm on farm
land to the south west of Silloth.
Hellrigg Wind Farm could produce enough green electricity to power
approximately 4,000 homes, without producing polluting carbon dioxide gas.
Clare Wilson, Regional Development Manager said, "We are very
disappointed that plans for Hellrigg wind farm were rejected. We
believe that Hellrigg is a good wind farm site and feel that
insufficient emphasis has been put on the urgent need to tackle
climate change and consequently have decided to appeal the Council's decision.
If constructed the site would make a valuable contribution towards the
government's commitment to ensure provision of 10% of electricity from
renewable sources by the year 2010 and 20% by 2020. It would also help
prevent the release of thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide, the main
greenhouse gas contributing to manmade climate change.
The decision will now be taken by The Planning Inspectorate.
