    Project Benefits
  • Maximum electrical output from the whole wind farm could be 750 megawatts. This would produce enough power every year for around 500,000 homes1 (equivalent to 40% of the homes in Wales2)
  • Every year, Gwynt y Môr would prevent the release of hundreds of thousands of tonnes of polluting carbon dioxide gas.
  • The development of Gwynt y Môr and the other proposed offshore wind farms presents an exciting opportunity for the growth of a new UK industry. This industry has the potential to create thousands of jobs, and with the construction of these new wind farms, the UK could become the world's biggest producer of offshore renewable power.
Notes

1. Predicted annual generation from the wind farm of 2,350,000,000 kWh per year divided by the average annual electricity consumption of a UK household of 4,700 kWh per year = 500,000 homes.

2. 500,000 homes divided by National Statistics estimate for number of households in Wales in mid 2003 of 1,213,400 = 41%.
