    Ballindalloch Muir Wind Farm

On December 20th 2007, npower renewables submitted a planning application to Stirling Council for Ballindalloch Muir Wind Farm. Details on how you can express your views about the scheme to Stirling Council will be updated on the website shortly.

In the meantime, a non technical summary (NTS) of the Environmental Statement can be down loaded from the link on the right hand side of this page.

Copies of the full Environmental Statement can be viewed at the following locations:

Over the past twelve months npower renewables has been examining the feasibility of building and operating a wind farm at Ballindalloch Muir in Stirlingshire. The proposed wind farm is located on open moor land east of Balfron and south of Buchlyvie.

Studies have indicated that a wind farm consisting of nine turbines, each of up to 125 metres to blade tip could be appropriate. A development of this size would have a total capacity of around 20 megawatts, enough to meet the average annual electricity needs of up to 9,500 Scottish homes.

The scheme would also prevent the release of thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide, making a valuable contribution to the overall goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the production of electricity.

Ballindalloch Muir is an excellent location for a wind farm as the site benefits from:

  • High wind speeds, ensuring high productivity and electrical output
  • The site is outside International, National and Local designations for landscape
  • The site is outside International and National designations for ecology
  • There are few dwellings located close to the site
  • It has good access to the electricity grid; and
  • Has good road access via the A811.

As a company, we are very interested in hearing your views about our proposal. The current design of the site has been influenced by the comments we have received in the last year. We will continue to collect your opinions as we prepare the final designs for the site before lodging a planning application with Stirling Council.
